May is a special month for many reasons and for us it’s special because we celebrate our birthday!
Just 6 short years ago, Jim and Amy Watkins decided to pursue a dream to open a shop that served all-natural, locally sourced pops inspired by a paletas shop in Nashville, TN. In early 2012, they started the build-out of their first storefront in Homewood, Alabama; from there, things began to unfold rather quickly. They opened for business in May of 2012, serving pops out of that small store, as well as from vending carts at local farmers’ markets and various places around Birmingham.
That little store in Homewood, AL, now makes thousands of pops each year, serving all of Alabama. And, over the past 6 years, Steel City Pops has expanded even beyond Alabama to 22 locations across, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky and Texas. You can check out all of our locations on our website: Steel City Pops Locations And read the full story of how we got started in Jim’s words here: Steel City Pops Story
